1 Android APP team

Recently I have a job to develop an Android APP, this one is not a toy app anymore, it is a serious product. In the former time, When the superior dispatch an app task to me, most of the time, I did not worry about the user interface or UI design, I just need to finish the job by my way, just ignore the ugly interface, because most of the jobs are just test or research oriented.

But this time is different, I need to develop a serious product. How can I make a product by myself? So I try to figure out the quality of the good team to make an awesome app.

This article provided three stages of Team structure, which can be a reference to run a successful app business.

2 Exploration Stage Team Structure

At this stage, it offers a low-risk entry into mobile development for companies looking to produce simple apps with a minimal number of in-house team members. I think We are at this stage or at the pre-stage.

The team composition:
  • All-around UX and Visual Designer
  • All-around skilled Mobile Developer
  • Project Manager
  • Pool of testers
So, what We have now? no visual designer, no project manager and just myself as both mobile and embedded device developer(part-time job). Then I tried to think about what a good mobile app developer team looks like?

3 Acceleration Stage Team Structure

After come through the Exploration stage, the company decided to move on, then more projects are added to the pipeline. But this team can still handle limited numbers of projects.

The team composition at this stage:
  • Development team led by director
  • Design team led by director
  • Project Managers
  • QA team led by director

4 Innovation Stage Team Structure

The Innovation phase is designed for large companies which can accommodate all major platforms, with specialists to handle the creation and long-term management of a nearly-infinite number of projects.

The Team Composition:
  • Design Dept. w/Lead Visual Designer, User Search, User Experience, etc.
  • Development Dept. w/Lead iOS, Android, Blackberry, Server, etc.
  • Project Management Department.
  • QA Dept. w/Unit Testing, Load Testing, Usability Testing, etc.
